The Black Student Union at New York Tech (BSU-NYT) is a multicultural organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of Black and Allies students at NYT through political action, community action, and social events. Understanding that the world changes for the better through the determined efforts of concerned people and that we are strongest when we are united, The Black Student Union at New York Tech exists in order to create that unity and foster that change in hopes of furthering the cause of equality. As a student-run organization, the Black Student Union at New York Tech is responsible for advocating for the students at NYT, taking political stands, and creating the sense of community necessary to unite students to work for positive change. On-campus, we strive to meet the needs of the Black community by holding events that are pertinent to the lives of Black students on campus and that create a supportive community for all Black students at New York Tech. The Black Student Union at New York Tech strives to create a safe and active community in order to adequately represent and respond to the Black community. This sense of community must come from both current social activities and from a sense of shared history and culture. Our strength comes from not only the collective struggle of our contemporaries but also the cumulative struggles of thousands who have sacrificed before us. Music Cubs NYC unites people to perform and appreciate music, with a primary focus on jazz, contemporary, and other suggested songs. The club will provide a practice room accessible to club members and allow them to bond and connect with each other. Rehearsals with the core big band will occur every week and are open to audiences and guests. We will perform at public events in New York Tech and outside of it. Once every month or so, open-mics will be hosted for members to perform whatever they would like. Dedicated club members will also be able to form their own combos and meet on their own schedule with access to the practice room.

SHPE is a national organization with chapters located throughout the nation. This club is one of the student chapters of SHPE National and our goal as a student chapter is to provide their services to New York Tech.

Chapter Membership:
Our chapter is open to EVERYONE, regardless of race, ethnicity, or nationality. Our goal is to help Hispanics but our events and services will benefit anyone that attends and anyone that supports our cause.

National Membership:
SHPE Nation offers scholarships, mentorships, and more opportunities. They also host events that will benefit members in the academic and professional fields. The biggest event is the SHPE National Convention which is held every year in November. At the convention, companies hold seminars regarding their workplace and current projects, and a career fair is held where attendees can talk to recruiters in order to get an internship or job. Previous attendees from our chapter were able to get internships and learn valuable information from these seminars.

These services, especially the National Convention, require National Membership with the SHPE Organization which is $10 for Undergrad, and $15 for Grad annually. Most of the services SHPE National provides are LIMITED to people of Hispanic origins, such as their scholarships, therefore it is more beneficial for Hispanics to apply. The SHPE Convention is open to all but it's aimed toward Hispanics.

The National Membership is NOT required for members to apply in order to attend our chapter events at New York Tech. However, national members benefit from having more access and input toward club operations. They are able to vote for and run for the President/Vice President roles in elections.
