MedicZero’s mission is to enable bystanders with the confidence to recognize emergencies and initiate care, encourage the delivery of skillful, evidence-based care by providers, and construct community paramedicine initiatives to improve the prehospital landscape.

Membership Benefits
As members of MedicZero, students can participate in the Train-The-Trainer (TTT) program, allowing them to volunteer/conduct bystander trainings on campus and in local communities. TTT includes a two-phase training protocol consisting of reviewing protocols, quizzes, and oral practicals created by MedicZero and verified by medical doctors. Participation in the program mandates that students have a valid CPR/BLS certification. If not, students can still complete phases 1 and 2 of the training, but they will only receive trainer clearance once a valid CPR/BLS certification is submitted. Students can become trainers for future cohorts and gain leadership skills by completing the program.

Additionally, students can participate in journal club meetings, which provide an opportunity to discuss scientific papers and connect ideas learned in class to emergency medicine. A journal club meeting is structured beginning with a 15-20 minute presentation about the chosen topic by 1-2 Executive board members or members, followed by 30 minutes of a skills-based activity to fortify understanding, and finally, 15 minutes of active discussion engaging all attendees. Such meeting structure is typically exercised by post-graduates and scientists, yet through MedicZero, undergraduate students have early exposure and will converse and present on topics such as Ethics in EMS and Mass Casualty Incidents/Triaging.

Moreover, MedicZero emphasizes community and involves individuals of all ages. Students will interact with various groups through collaborations with other student organizations in stroke presentations in classrooms or tabling events in local communities by completing bystander training with high schools, shelters, and public places. MedicZero offers students an opportunity to meet the Long Island community and individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and career paths.

The purpose of the soon to be Middle Eastern Relief Club is to provide aid to the suffering Middle Eastern and North African countries including Palestine, Yemen, Afghanistan, and Syria. These countries are in constant turmoil leaving thousands without food, proper clothing, or homes. 
Not only will the organization actively follow trusted platforms and spread awareness of the atrocities, but will also continuously donate money and necessities to these struggling families. Events and sales will be hosted in which proceeds will be directly sent to absolute relief and charity organizations. As NYIT is also a very diverse campus, these events would include cultural involvement to allow students to feel connected through their differences. This is all to improve campus life while aiming to aid struggling individuals.

For a fairly small school, NYIT is infused with many different cultures. The Middle Eastern Relief Club will hold cultural events where students can express their backgrounds through clothing, food, and formal events. It gives students something to look forward to while improving campus life.

Participating in events and fundraising activities that this club holds, students can experience acts of community service and working together. Donating to a bigger situation that many are passionate about will help students feel part of something great.

NYIT needs to improve campus life, whether it be in big or small ways. Coordinating and planning events will encourage students to step out of their comfort zone (and textbooks), meeting new people and experiencing new settings.

At SSI, we are a dynamic college club raising awareness and educating about skin cancer and sun protection. We aim to empower individuals with the knowledge and tools they need for effective UV protection and proper sun safety. Our goals each semester include fundraising at our NYIT campus in Old Westbury to support initiatives that promote skin cancer prevention and protect the health and well-being of our student community. These efforts not only help sustain our outreach and donation programs, such as providing sunscreen to students through the Grizzly Cupboard, but also bring our campus community together around a shared mission of proactive health and UV protection.

Members of SunSmart Initiative gain access to events such as general body meetings where we promote awareness about the importance of safety in the sun, skin cancer prevention, and the importance of daily sunblock use. These general body meetings promote an engaging, educational space for members to learn, share ideas, and contribute on campus. Additionally, SSI creates the opportunity for our members to take part in leadership roles which help cultivate key qualities including teamwork, event coordination, and effective social media use to promote our club and mission. Eboard members plan and execute events during the year which contribute to our campus life here at NYIT. This year, we were able to successfully organize two fundraisers to support our outreach efforts on campus, which included fundraising in order to keep sun safety resources available on campus and promote the health of our student body. To this end, SSI club members were able to donate sunscreens to the Grizzly Cupboard each semester since the founding of the club. Being part of SunSmart means joining a mission-driven community that values promoting awareness of sun safety, while also providing valuable personal and professional growth.
